hello,

I have just managed to aquire some books in electronic format from a publisher. However, the books have been sent to me in PDF format. I would like to convert these books in word format, so i wanted to know what is the best way to convert these books without losing the accuracy of the content within?

I have the latest version of kurzwile installed on my laptop.
Please could you give your suggestions as soon as possible thank you

I would just send them to convert@robobraille.org as an attachment, and in the subject, write "doc" minus the quotes. Some files may come faster than others, depend on their length. Robobraille is an entirely free service that normally converts text to braille or audio, but among it's wonerful features is a converter that works with text files like txt, rtf and doc and pdf but also purely graphical ones like jpg, bmp, tif and so on. Their main page is at

http://www.robobraille.org

and the page that explains about conversion of text documents into other text type files is here.

Yes please if you could. If you could just tell me the name of it i should be able to download it?

I also found this software called Foxit reader. It is used to read PDF documents. It isn't accessible but it allows you to open the document and then select all and coppy. You can then paste the contents of the clipboard into anything.

are they not readable via adobe reader or an iphone/ITouch? pdf are so accessible at this point I wonder why anyone even bothers with doc files anymore?

Why get something that requires a special reader and that may or may not be readable on it's own without some kind of conversion. Just use txt, doc or rtf.

Because PDF inherently has a document structure including the ability to embed tables, charts, a Table of Contents, and all sorts of things.
PDF = Portable Document Format = cross-platform.
When I get a Touch I certainly intend on using it for PDF files. I could, for example, get a nearly tactile representation of a chart.
But to Eleni, txt and rtf do not have structure. A document is nothing if not structured anymore. Even a print or Braille book has structure: You can find the paragraphs, a Table of contents, chapters, headings, stuff like that.
Txt is just a huge stream conglomerate of just plain text with no order or organization.
So when you need to reference a section, jump back and forth between sections, look at embedded content, PDF is your friend.

@post8 dude? are you serious, doc is not a standard file and it requires a special read, writer and converter to do anything with. (hint, Microsoft Word) as post9 says pdf is exactly what we want do its its true portability and cross platform readability, writability and if need be convertability. I think you are stuck back in 2002 or something.
